The U.S. Department of State said on Monday that American assistance programs in Georgia are also focused on peace and security.

"The United States is proud to have partnered with Georgia for more than thirty years on its democratic journey, and to have contributed to Georgia’s growing ties with the United States and Euro-Atlantic community. We remain committed to Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders in the face of Russian aggression and continued occupation of 20 percent of Georgia’s territory," a State Department Spokesperson told the Accent.

According to the Spokesperson, "department of State and USAID assistance programs in Georgia are focused on peace and security; economic growth and development; democracy, human rights, and governance; education and social services; and humanitarian assistance."

"Specific sectoral allocations have not been made yet for FY 2023 funds but will continue to focus on these priority areas," the State Department Spokesperson added.

On December 29 2022 U.S. President Joe Biden signed a $1.7 trillion federal spending bill that also includes $132,025,000 for assistance to Georgia.
