The Parliament of Romania has adopted a declaration by which it supports the European prospective for Georgia. Romanian Ambassador to Georgia, Razvan Rotundu told the Accent about it.

According to Romanian media, the Romanian Parliament calls for the continuation of European support for the advancement of Georgia's European journey, including by granting the status of a candidate state for accession, taking into account the clear pro-European orientation of the country's citizens. It also encourages the continuation of Georgia's efforts to implement the recommendations of the European Commission.

According to the declaration, the Romanian Parliament reiterates its willingness to co-operate and provide support to the parliaments of the candidate and potential candidate states, for the advancement of the accession processes.

Some context: On 8 November 2023, the European Commission recommended that the Council of the European Union opens EU accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, and grants candidate country status to Georgia on the understanding that a number of steps are taken.

The European Council will take the final decision on granting status to Georgia in December.
