The Georgian Institute of Politics condemns "the use of physical violence against the population" and urges "Georgian Dream to listen to the will of the Georgian people".
"Since its establishment, the Georgian Institute of Politics has always strived to promote democracy and support national consensus building. Unfortunately, the recent policies of the Georgian Dream aim to polarize and divide society, hindering national unity. A clear example of this is the decision of Georgian Dream to suspend negotiations with the European Union until 2028. This decision contradicts the expressed will of the Georgian citizens and Article 78 of the Constitution, which states that “constitutional bodies must take all measures within their powers to ensure Georgia’s full integration into the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.”
In recent days, the tensions in the capital of Georgia and other cities have been fueled by the threats to the country’s foreign policy direction and, consequently, the democratic future of Georgia. The unwavering will of the vast majority of the Georgian population to return to European civilization, where its historical roots lie, must not be ignored.
We observe with concern the violent suppression of the peaceful mass protests of the Georgian people by the special forces. We condemn the use of physical violence against the population and urge Georgian Dream to listen to the will of the Georgian people, who are firm in support of the development of Georgia as a European democratic state.
The choice of Georgian citizens has been, is, and will remain the country’s European integration, which is the only guarantee of Georgia’s democracy, freedom, and prosperity." said the statement of the Georgian Institute of Politics.
