Today, when the situation in the country is calm, I took the liberty and asked my team to resign from my position, which will allow me to dedicate more time to my family—my wife, children, and newly born grandchild, - said the former Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri, in his public statement.

As he stated, this decision was not easy for him to make, but despite resigning, he remains loyal to "Georgian Dream."

"I want to inform the public that I have made the decision to step down from the position of Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia.

This decision was not easy for me to accept. Since 2011, I have been part of the struggle led by Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili which brought transformative changes to our country. I cherish and take pride in every achievement our country has accomplished under the leadership of this governmental team. Accordingly, I remain loyal to this team. In the future, whenever necessary, I am ready to stand by the state and the ruling team if the need arises.

For more than 10 years, I have held the positions of Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Head of the State Security Service, and Deputy Prime Minister. Of course, holding such high-level government positions for so many years is a very demanding job and requires a lot of energy. Today, when the situation in the country is calm, I took the liberty and asked my team to resign from my position, which will allow me to dedicate more time to my family—my wife, children, and newly born grandchild.

I want to thank Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili, whose trust in me gave me the opportunity to serve my country from the highest positions. His trust and example gave me a special motivation to perform my duties conscientiously and contribute to strengthening Georgia’s statehood.

I want to thank Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and the entire governmental team, whose support I always felt and who understood my decision.

I want to thank each and every employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, every heroic police officer, firefighter-rescuer, everyone with whom I worked to ensure the security of our country for many years.

I wish each of them, and the future minister, success in their work.

I remain loyal to my country and my team. I wish my country and the government peace, security, and the successful fulfillment of all their goals," - noted Gomelauri.
