“A request to transfer Giorgi Bachiashvili to Rustavi’s No. 12 penitentiary facility has been submitted to the Penitentiary Service for several days now. Despite this, I do not believe that Giorgi Bachiashvili’s health and safety can be ensured in any penitentiary facility,” said Davit Jandieri, the lawyer of Giorgi Bachiashvili, the former head of the Co-Investment Fund and a convicted individual, in a statement to journalists.

Regarding the information that Kahi Metreveli, the prisoner who was placed in Bachiashvili’s cell and inflicted physical injuries on him, is an inmate from Ksani prison, the lawyer stated that he learned this through the media.

As for his health condition, throughout the past week, we visited him daily, and he continued treatment for the injuries inflicted on him, with positive progress observed.

[Regarding the information about Kahi Metreveli], we learned about this through the media. We believe it is important to establish whether he was serving his sentence in a semi-open or closed regime and when and on what legal basis he was transferred from which facility to the No. 8 facility. This information will allow us to understand what was behind the attack. We will appeal to the Public Defender and request an investigation into this matter. I believe the investigation should also take an interest. In the coming days, when we make a request to grant Giorgi Bachiashvili victim status, we will also demand that the surveillance cameras from the No. 8 penitentiary, ‘Vivamedi,’ and the escort service be retrieved and archived, after which we will be able to review these video materials,” stated Davit Jandieri.
