Chair of the United National Movement (UNM), Tina Bokuchava, has dismissed speculation around a specific date for revolutionary action, calling such predictions “irresponsible.”
Speaking at a press briefing, Bokuchava stated: “Revolution dates are not pre-announced. No one should place a bet on a single date. Managing public expectations incorrectly is unjustifiable and deeply irresponsible.”
She stressed that real resistance against the current regime requires continuous action, day-to-day commitment, and the surprise effect.
“The United National Movement – historically, and still today – the most principled and strongest force fighting against Ivanishvili’s regime, continues to be a permanent target of the State Security Service (SSS). President Saakashvili warned about the SSS’s attempts to interfere in the party months ago. As chair of the UNM, I will not allow SSS infiltration aimed at discrediting and marginalizing Ivanishvili’s main opponent,” she noted.
Bokuchava linked increased SSS activity to the UNM’s growing public support, citing the party’s “consistent and uncompromising activities in both domestic and international arenas.”
Outlining the UNM’s strategy, Bokuchava emphad five core pillars: non-cooperation with the regime; complete political and social isolation of the regime, both domestically and internationally; Widespread and persistent civil resistance, for example, the ongoing 245-day protest on Rustaveli Avenue, the large-scale rally on July 19, and the upcoming demonstration in Batumi on August 2; individual sanctions on Bidzina Ivanishvili and key regime figures; genuine consolidation of democratic forces, with UNM acting as both a leading political actor and a reliable partner,” Bokuchava concluded.
