On January 15, I met with the “Georgian Youth Association” at the German Embassy and posted a photo. Today, Imedi and Rustavi 2 claim that the meeting was “secret” and that it encouraged an “Iranian radical scenario.” This is completely false. Nothing of the sort was discussed. I reject this aggressive disinformation on behalf of Germany, wrote the German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, on social media.
He stated that the discussion focused on “young people’s concerns regarding the blocked path of Georgia toward the European Union.”
“We talked about young people’s concerns regarding education reform, a deeply polarized environment where differing opinions are treated as betrayal, when in reality they are the essence of democracy. For a better future, we need all young people,” Fischer wrote on X.
For context, Imedi and Rustavi 2 reported that on January 15, members of “various radical opposition groups” met with Ambassador Peter Fischer at the German Embassy.
“According to available information, Peter Fischer allegedly spoke to opposition activists about the need to radicalize processes and explained that the existence of casualties would provoke mass and radical protests, citing the situation in Iran as an example,” the reports by Imedi and Rustavi 2 stated.
