U.S. Embassy to Georgia has said that U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will emphasize the importance of free and fair elections during his visit to Tbilisi.
“We are happy to welcome Secretary Pompeo to beautiful Tbilisi! The Secretary is here to reaffirm the United States' strong support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and to reinforce the commitment to our shared values of freedom and democracy.
Secretary Pompeo will discuss efforts to strengthen Georgia's democratic institutions and emphasize the importance of free and fair elections.” the Embassy said in a statement," U.S. Embassy to Georgia said in a statement.
In Tbilisi Secretary Pompeo will meet President Salome Zurabishvili, Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani, as well as civil society representatives and Georgian Orthodox Patriarch Ilia II in the first half of Wednesday.
He arrived to Tbilisi from Istanbul and will depart in the afternoon of November 18 for Tel Aviv. Top U.S. diplomat visits Georgia as part of his seven nation trip to U.S. allies, including France, Turkey, Georgia, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
