The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Natia Turnava has said that the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project is a “strategic project for the Georgian government.”

“It is very important to have a deep sea port on the Black Sea to strengthen our transit role,” Turnava said in an interview with PalitraNews TV program 360 Degrees.

According to her, the Georgian government has already made a number of significant positive decisions in order to support this project.

“For example, 300 million is planned to spend from the state for infrastructure. The state has already spent 70 million laris, including for redemption of land to transfer relevant lands to the Anaklia Development Consortium. The government and the Partnership Foundation are planned to invest 100 million dollars in this project; it will be subordinated loan; this will be our co-financing, when the private investor and the Anaklia Development Consortium fulfill their obligations and attract financing.  The fact, that international banks are involved in this project and we are negotiating with them, is the merit of involvement of the Government of Georgia. We will do our best for implementation of this project. We have great hope that together with our support the Anaklia Development Consortium will successfully fulfill its obligations and this project will be implemented within the established time frame”, Turnava said.
