Mariusz Maszkiewicz - Anaklia Drainage Port could be largest gateway between Europe and Asia

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to Georgia, Mariusz Maszkiewicz said on Tuesday that The construction of the Anaklia Drainage Port is a strategic importance project.

As the Ambassador told the Accent, in parallel to the construction of drainage port, well-developed infrastructure is very important.

“Georgia already has Batumi and Poti ports, but the third largest, serious gateway between Europe and Asia could be exactly the Anaklia port. I think, the development of this sphere of economy is a good idea, because it is important for Georgia. However, in order to boost up the Georgian economy along with the construction of a deep water port it is important to develop the high standard infrastructure, transport system - including highways, railways,” Maszkiewicz told the Accent.

The construction of the Anaklia Drainage Port started on December 20, 2017. The opening of the first phase of the Port is scheduled by 2021.
