Georgia’s fifth president, Salome Zurabishvili, has responded to the Revenue Service’s freezing of the accounts of the media outlet Batumelebi, calling the penalty imposed on the outlet a case of targeted repression.
“Terror in Georgia – the government has frozen the accounts of the independent media outlet ‘Batumelebi’ just a few days before the court hearing of journalist Mzia Amaghlobeli – a clear act of punishment. This is not justice. This is targeted repression,” – Zurabishvili wrote on social media platform X.
For reference, earlier today "Batumelebi" reported that the Revenue Service had frozen their bank accounts. According to the outlet, the official reason given is a financial debt amounting to 47,000 GEL.
