Giorgi Burjanadze: On the cases of political prisoners, “Georgian Dream” is not granting the necessary consent for OSCE/ODIHR to carry out monitoring

“‘Georgian Dream’ is not granting the OSCE/ODIHR permission to conduct monitoring of political prisoners’ cases,” writes Giorgi Burjanadze, a member of the coalition “My Voice for the EU” and a lawyer, on social media.

According to him, ODIHR has expressed readiness to monitor the trials of political prisoners once the necessary permission is granted, but no such permission has been issued since December.

“OSCE/ODIHR was invited to Georgia by Salome Zourabichvili in December 2024 to address the cases of political prisoners.

According to ODIHR’s methodology, it must be granted access to the trials by the courts, and their permission is required. Since December, this permission has not been granted.

ODIHR has expressed readiness to monitor the trials of political prisoners once the necessary permission is obtained. This is particularly important after the trials are closed.

In 2013, ‘Georgian Dream’ itself invited OSCE/ODIHR to monitor trials, and it is interesting—if they had nothing to hide back then, what are they hiding today?” Burjanadze writes on social media.
