The Minister of Defence of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili spoke on Tuesday about the defence equipment that the country plans to purchase by 2021.

"The second phase of the so-called French contract will be completed in 2021; during the first phase of this contract Georgia received French-made air surveillance radars, a mobile command post and Mistral 3 anti-aircraft missile systems. In 2021 the second phase of this French contract will be successfully completed.

In addition, we have recently signed an agreement with our Jewish partners, which provides for the complete renewal and modernization of Raphael anti-aircraft system.

This year we also plan to purchase modern portable anti-aircraft missile systems. As you know, in recent years the Georgian Armed Forces received a batch of Javelin missiles, in 2021 in cooperation with our strategic partner [USA] it is planned to purchase an additional batch. In order to increase the number of anti-tank vehicles, we also plan to purchase modern anti-tank equipment of a closer radius,” Garibashvili told in front of Georgian lawmakers.

According to him, it is planned to update the aviation park:

"In 2021 we will purchase operational and tactical, unmanned reconnaissance and combat drones, develop radio and electronic reconnaissance and surveillance equipment. In 2021 we will complete the equipping of the army with NATO standard M4 rifles, machine guns and other means".
