According to Eter Turadze, the editor-in-chief of “Batumelebi,” Mzia Amaghlobeli was holding a piece of paper with the inscription “A slap to the regime” as she left the courtroom.

As Turadze noted, a system cannot be allowed to destroy and sacrifice people.

“I didn’t see it myself, but I was told that today Mzia Amaghlobeli was holding a piece of paper that read: ‘A slap to the regime.’ Yes, that’s it!

What greater injustice can the state, the court, the police, and the executive authorities commit against a citizen when they send Mzia Amaghlobeli, who has health problems and has committed no crime, to prison for 2 years?! Everyone is ganging up on one woman! Bravo! This is a system of evil that must be dismantled. A system cannot be allowed to destroy and sacrifice people like this. Yes, as Mzia said in her final statement: ‘Fight to the end.’

The truth is on our side, and we cannot allow the truth to be erased or encourage, through silence, the evil that reigns in this country,” Turadze stated.

Journalist Mzia Amaghlobeli was sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment. The judge changed the charge initially brought under Article 353/1, Part 1 of the Criminal Code to Article 353, Part 1. The latter pertains to resistance against a police officer, a special penitentiary service employee, or another representative of the authorities with the intent to obstruct public order protection, terminate, or alter their activities. The penalties for this offense include a fine, house arrest for up to 2 years, or imprisonment for 2 to 6 years.
