We announce that we are ready to participate in the Anaklia project if we find a commercially viable solution” said EBRD First Vice President Jürgen Rijterink in an exclusive interview with Analytics.

This is Jurgen Rigterink’s first official visit to Georgia in his current position.

Mr. Rigterink already met Prime Minister of Georgia - Giorgi Gakharia. The importance of the Anaklia project was discussed among other topics.

"Yesterday I held meetings in Armenia, I met government and business representatives. They also assured us that this project is valuable not only for Georgia, but for the entire region” stated the vice president of EBRD in an exclusive interview with “Analytics”.

When asked about the EBRD’s involvement in the Anaklia project and what a more commercially viable solution means, the EBRD First Vice President answered that he cannot specify the details yet.

“First we need to know decision of the government, as well as sponsors of this project decide,” says Jürgen Rijterink, explaining:

In an ideal situation, EBRD support may not be necessary as we are a development bank. EBRD only gets involved where the commercial market cannot use its already existing potential. We call such situation following - there is a need for additional involvement. We told the Prime Minister that if the commercial market loss cannot be eliminated, we are ready to play our part in the implementation of this important project,” Rigterink said.
