Romanian Ambassador to Georgia, Razvan Rotundu said on Wednesday that the project of a ferry line between Georgia and Romania is a priority for both countries.

"The project of a ferry line between Constanta and one of the Georgian ports Either Batumi or Poti has always been a very important topic on the agenda. As neither Romania or Georgia have a public company for navigation the initiative of the private sector is essential At this point there are a couple of initiatives and we are looking forward to them. The Romanian public authorities are ready to assist these initiatives," Ambassador Rotundu told the Accent.

"This is a priority assumed by both Governments," he added.

Some context: In 2019 Georgia, Romania, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan signed a document establishing the Black Sea-Caspian Sea Freight Transport Corridor.

According to the foreign ministers of all four countries, this new corridor will be the shortest, most profitable way to connect Central Asia to Europe through the two seas.

As analysts say, this transport route will be an important part of the EU-Central Asia cooperation strategy.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has repeatedly mentioned that the strengthening of Georgia as the logistics center of the region is one of the priority directions of the government.
