Azerbaijan plans to export electricity through Georgia

Azerbaijan plans to export electricity through Georgia. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev spoke aboit it at a press conference held after meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibasvili.

"In the next five years, Azerbaijan is going to export its natural gas to Europe. We have the opportunity and we intend to export almost 20 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Europe by 2027. In the meantime, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline will be even more loaded and we want to use the Baku–Supsa Pipeline. New projects also include initiatives in the direction of electricity. Azerbaijan intends to export electricity to international markets. Of course, our route will definitely pass through Georgia. Our renewable energy capacity is 10 gigawatts, and through the Caspian Sea we have the opportunity to export 157 gigawatts. We think that Georgia and Azerbaijan will cooperate successfully in this and other directions, our cooperation and the potential of our energy corridors will increase," Aliyev said.

The President of Azerbaijan is on a 1-day visit to Tbilisi. The PM hosted President Aliyev at Chateau Mukhrani, where, according to the Georgian government’s press release, the two sides discussed the security environment in the region and the world, as well as the strategic partnership between the two countries, and increasing cooperation in trade and the economy. After their meeting, PM Garibashvili and President Aliyev led a joint press conference.
