The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia responds to the planned protest rally before the convocation of the twelfth convocation of the Parliament and warns the organizers not to go beyond the limits established by the Law on Assembly/Manifestation and to refrain from unlawful actions.
As the agency explains, otherwise, the police will take all appropriate legal measures to prevent illegal actions.
In addition, in the statement, the Ministry of Internal Affairs indicates that the law directly prohibits the blocking of a strategic or special importance object, which is a punishable act under Article 222 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
“As is known to the public, before the convocation of the 11th convocation of the Parliament of Georgia, from November 24, several opposition parties are planning to gather at Republic Square and then march towards the Parliament.
Through the media and social networks, opposition party leaders are spreading information that the purpose of this gathering is to disrupt the first session of the 11th convocation of the Parliament, which may be carried out by various methods.
We would like to remind the organizers and participants of the planned rally that the Georgian legislation defines in detail the legal framework and scope of holding a gathering-demonstration in order to protect public safety and ensure the proper functioning of various organizations.
In addition, the law directly prohibits the blocking of a strategic or special importance object, which is a punishable act under Article 222 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
The Criminal Code provides for imprisonment for a term of up to two years for a person who commits this crime, and if the act is committed by a group - imprisonment for a term of up to 4 years for the members of the group.
In addition, we would like to remind the public that the Resolution of the Government of Georgia No. 361 of October 23, 2024 established a list of objects of strategic and/or special importance, including the buildings of the Parliament of Georgia and the Government Administration.
Accordingly, we warn the participants and organizers of the planned rally not to exceed the limits established by the Law on Assembly/Manifestation and to refrain from unlawful actions. Otherwise, the police will take all appropriate legal measures to prevent illegal actions,” the statement reads.
